J. Craig Nannos serves as a Consulting Specialist for Freeman's Militaria Department, uniquely skilled in the identification and understanding of military artifacts.
Mr. Nannos first began working with Freeman's in 2012 as a consultant for the sale of Historic Naval Colors from the USS Constitution, the Collection of H. Richard Dietrich, Jr. Mr. Nannos' specialized expertise helped make this auction a resounding success, realizing a combined total of $2.5 million. The eleven flags and cannonball from the USS Constitution realized $784,500, were 100% sold, and established 12 auction records. Mr. Nannos is the founder and CEO of The Sentry Post which provides historical, organizational, and educational expertise for international historical events, museum exhibitions, and major film productions. His background includes graduate studies at Drexel University, completion of military education to achieve the rank of Colonel, 38+ years in military service, and over 40 years of involvement in the study of American history and historical artifacts.
His services have been used by institutions and law firms in need of assistance with estate auctions regarding the identification, historical importance, and when necessary values of military artifacts. In 2010, he conducted the appraisal of the largest private collection of flags in North America, This collection contained more than 2,000 flags. He has represented the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the identification and evaluation of an extensive collection of material stolen from the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and was their expert witness in Federal Court. In addition, Mr. Nannos has done appraisal work for the National Park Service, Corp of Engineers, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the US Army Museum system.
